Dr. Kelli Brown completed her undergraduate education at Boston College, earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1993. She then attended West Virginia University where she earned a master's degree in Sport Behavior, a master's degree in Counseling, and finally a doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology in 2000. She has been a licensed Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia since 2002. Dr. Brown began working in justice involved settings in 1991. She has worked at a juvenile detention center in Massachusetts, a maximum-security state correctional institution in Pennsylvania, a state forensic hospital in Virginia, a state correctional institution in Virginia, and federal correctional institutions in West Virginia, North Carolina, and Virginia. Most recently, Dr. Brown has worked at a federal correctional institution in Virginia for a period of over 20 years. Dr. Brown has extensive experience providing mental health services to incarcerated individuals, as well as those who work in a correctional or justice involved environment. Dr. Brown uses a humanistic, client centered, trauma informed, culturally sensitive approach to treatment, with emphasis on the evaluation and treatment of cognitions and behaviors. Dr. Brown focuses on maximizing individual strengths, capabilities, and resilience. Dr. Brown's clinical specialties include the provision of evidence-based practice to address anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief management, and stress management. Dr. Brown additionally specializes in the provision of correctional employee support, and correctional employee training.
